American University Center for the Global South
The Foundation has supported the Center for the Global South at American University's School of International Service. The Center examines critical issues affecting the poorer developing countries in the world, characterized collectively as the South. Through conferences, seminars and summer institutes, the Center studies issues related to global development, the environment, human rights, gender, population, the changing international legal order, regional cooperation, security, and the new roles for the United Nations and other international and regional organizations in the post-Cold War era.
As stated by the center’s founder and director, Ambassador Clovis Maksoud, former Chief Representative for the League of Arab States to the United Nations and the United States:
“The El-Hibri Charitable Foundation is an expression of the humanitarian commitment of the El-Hibri family. Because the Foundation believes that generosity is a moral responsibility as well as a spiritual fulfillment, its widespread philanthropic contributions, including funding to support my organization’s pursuit of equity and global justice, enables the achievement of dignity in life by the disadvantaged groups it assists. The El-Hibri Charitable Foundation is a gift to humanity that sustains authentic concern for human development and humane values.”
