Mohamed Magid

Imam Mohamed Magid is a distinguished Sudanese-American Islamic scholar and a globally recognized leader in interfaith collaboration, social justice, and peace education. He serves as the Executive Imam of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Center in Sterling, Virginia, a thriving congregation he has led to become one of the largest in the United States, serving over 5,000 families across ten locations.

A tireless champion of interfaith dialogue, Imam Magid is the Co-Founder of the Multi-Faith Neighbors Network, which builds bridges between Muslim, Evangelical Christian, and Jewish communities. This work includes a notable partnership with Pastor Bob Roberts to foster understanding across the US. During his two terms as President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) from 2010 to 2014, he was instrumental in establishing Shoulder-to-Shoulder, a national coalition of faith-based organizations dedicated to ending anti-Muslim sentiment.

On the international stage, Imam Magid is the Chairman and founder of the International Interfaith Peace Corps (IIPC). Through IIPC, he has partnered with organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to address global health challenges, such as countering religious fears over inoculations in Africa and helping to save thousands of lives.

As a respected scholar in Islamic jurisprudence, trained in the Maliki school of thought, Imam Magid was a key contributor to the 2016 Marrakesh Declaration, a landmark Islamic legal document enshrining the rights of religious minorities in Muslim-majority countries. He is a passionate advocate for women’s rights, actively training emerging female religious leaders and mobilizing scholars to end violence against women, and serves on the advisory board of the Peaceful Families Project.

Imam Magid's influence is recognized through numerous appointments and awards. He is a Commissioner on the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) and Co-President of Religions for Peace. In 2017, he was named the El-Hibri Peace Education Prize Laureate. His other honors include the Faith-In-Action Award from the International Center for Religion and Diplomacy (2016) and being named Washingtonian of the Year (2009).

A co-author of three books and a prolific writer, Imam Magid has been profiled in prestigious publications including Time Magazine, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, and was named “America’s Imam” by the Huffington Post.
